SCCC and the Coronavirus Update:

Although there will still be no face to face Worship Services, other meetings or gatherings in the near future, we will  begin to see restrictions eased over the next few weeks. This does not mean that church services and gatherings will be allowed to take place just yet. We will continue to keep you informed, as we follow updates from the Victorian and Federal Governments.  We hope you are all getting the beautiful reflections from Anne, Steve & Robyn, now in YouTube format on our webpage. They have all spent so much time considering how God's words can support us at this time and we are most grateful.

For Reflection:

 Prayer for Homeless People

Hear our prayer today for all women and men, boys and girls who are homeless this day.

For those sleeping under bridges, on park benches, in doorways or bus stations.

For those who can only find shelter for the night but must wander in the daytime.

For families broken because they could not afford to pay the rent.

For those who have no relatives or friends who can take them in.

For those who have no place to keep possessions that remind them who they are.

For those who are afraid and hopeless.

For those who have been betrayed by our social safety net.

For all these people, we pray that you will provide shelter, security and hope.

We pray for those of us with warm houses and comfortable beds that we will not be lulled into complacency and forgetfulness.

Jesus, help us to see your face in the eyes of every homeless person we meet.

Empower us to work for justice and peace through words and deeds, and through the political means we have.

Give us open hearts to greet and meet the homeless people in our neighbourhoods.

in your name we pray.  Amen.

Prayer Matters

Gordon & Bette Allsop, Thelma Riley, Di John, Ray & Ellen Palmer, Eric Longmuir, Barbara Hanson, Felicity Sentance, John Campbell (CRV resident) who is in hospital with a kidney infection.  Please pray for Graham & Lorraine Woodroffe at this time. Graham was readmitted to hospital on Monday, after experiencing heart problems and is most unwell. Their daughters Jo and Debbie are sharing their week, being with them both.

We would ask you to continue in prayer for Denise & Rex. Denise is currently in intensive care. Her operation was much bigger than was expected.

Congratulations:  To Fran and Peter Dedrick who are the  proud grandparents of Eli Luke Jarmon, the newborn son of their daughter Ruth, husband Matt and their son Toby. We  have Fran and Peter’s address if you need it.

Church Pantry:   Thank you to our wonderful people who have donated so much this week. See note below.

Offering:  Some of you have indicated that you would like to continue to provide your offerings to support the work here, so here are the bank details, for online banking. Your gifts are greatly appreciated.

Cheltenham Community Centre AGM

Thursday 28th May 7:30pm.

The AGM will be held on zoom.

COVID 19: We continue to receive weekly news and advice from Churches of Christ Victoria and Tasmania (CCVT) about ways for us to adapt our normal activities and service to make sure we all stay well.

Thank you:  Officeworks has contacted us and offered to provide food and resources for our pantry. So far, they have given us a significant amount of long life milk.  A very big “Thank you” to Tammy Rowed (CCC) for working with Officeworks to facilitate this and to Kay Davis who has unpacked and stacked it all. We have also received meals for the freezer, which we will be able to distribute to our vulnerable people. Many thanks to Sharon Bourke (CCC) for preparing this food. And of course, to everyone who has continued to bring food and resources.

This is an important ministry and we appreciate all the support we receive.

Please note:  All programs of SCCC & CCC have been put on hold for the time being.

Facility Update:

This week, we have noticed changes to the Lilly Pilly Room (off the main foyer). Things we haven’t noticed include many metres of electrical and computer related wiring. This all happens in the roof, so we can’t actually see it!  Kevin has also placed a phone in the sitting area of the foyer, for the people who need to call support services etc. This is usually used by our homeless friends, so now they will have a small area of privacy. The phone cannot be used by anyone, without the call being made by the Customer Service team.

Soul Cafe:  Whilst Soul Cafe is unable to serve you in person, we would still like to provide a weekly home cooked meal. So now Soul Cafe offers contactless home delivery. An order form will be attached with ‘Life Matters”  for orders ($5.00). You can also order 3 weeks ahead. You can drop it into the letterboxes at the front and rear door of SCCC  by midday Monday 25th May, or you can call Robyn Daff @ SCCC to place your order over the phone. Phone orders would mean that payment would then be required when the meal is delivered. See the Soul Cafe page on the SCCC  web page for all the information.

Flu Vaccinations:

Flu season is fast approaching and more than ever before, everyone should consider getting vaccinated for the flu. 5 reasons to get vaccinated against the Flu

• Easing of COVID-19 restrictions means more opportunity for viruses to spread

• Influenza can lower your immunity, making you more susceptible to other illnesses such as COVID-19

• If you catch the flu and COVID-19 at the same time, the results could be severe or even deadly

• While there is no vaccine for COVID-19, there is one you can get for the flu

• The flu can be deadly, in 2017 the flu caused more than 1,200 Australian deaths (3.9 per 100,000 people)
